On April
23, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with the
United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and other Gulf nations following
attacks linked to the ongoing US/Israel conflict with Iran.
Speaking
at the State House in Abuja during the presentation of Letters of Credence from
newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners, Tinubu praised the
resilience and restraint shown by Gulf states amidst the crisis.
He
emphasized that Nigeria will always stand for peace, stability, and global
tranquillity, stressing that solidarity with the region is a reflection of
Nigeria’s commitment to international cooperation.
The President specifically extended Nigeria’s support to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Jordan, assuring them that Nigeria shares their pursuit of peace and stability. He highlighted that the world needs “tranquillity, peace and love,” and Nigeria stands ready to work with partners to achieve these goals.
During
the ceremony, Tinubu received Letters of Credence from envoys representing
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Sudan, Namibia, Rwanda, Somalia, Argentina, and
Congo. He noted that their appointments mark a significant milestone in
Nigeria’s diplomatic relations and expressed confidence in their ability to
strengthen ties between Nigeria and their respective countries.
Tinubu
underscored Nigeria’s foreign policy priorities, which include fostering peace
within Africa and globally, defending constitutional order, promoting regional
economic integration, and stabilizing the Sahel region.
He
stressed that Nigeria’s active engagement with the international community is
guided by a strategic foreign policy that seeks mutual prosperity,
infrastructural development, and democratic governance.
The
President also pointed to Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms aimed at
repositioning the country as a competitive hub for investment, innovation, and
sustainable growth. He invited the envoys to see Nigeria as a dynamic partner
open to strategic collaboration, highlighting the country’s youthful population
and entrepreneurial spirit as assets for global cooperation.
Tinubu
further acknowledged the overlapping global crises—climate change, energy
transitions, terrorism, and financial inequities—and pledged Nigeria’s
readiness to work bilaterally and multilaterally to advocate for a fairer and
more secure world order.
He
assured the envoys of full cooperation from Nigeria’s institutions and
encouraged them to explore the country beyond Abuja to experience its cultural
diversity and warmth.
On behalf
of the envoys, the Ambassador of Qatar expressed gratitude to President Tinubu
for the reception and pledged to strengthen relations with Nigeria during their
tenure.
This
event not only reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Gulf states during a
turbulent geopolitical moment but also reinforced Tinubu’s vision of Nigeria as
a proactive global partner committed to peace, stability, and economic
progress.
