First Lady Inaugurates Tinubu Grassroots Mobilisation Group
In a move
that underscores the centrality of grassroots politics in Nigeria, First Lady
Oluremi Tinubu has formally launched the Tinubu Torchbearers (TTB), a
political mobilisation platform designed to consolidate support for President
Bola Tinubu’s administration and its Renewed Hope agenda ahead of the
2027 elections.
The
unveiling took place at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja,
where women leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
gathered from across the country to witness the event.
The First Lady’s message was clear: women must become active ambassadors of government policies and achievements. She described them as the backbone of community mobilisation, urging them to carry the message of reforms in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, and job creation to every ward and polling unit nationwide.
Her emphasis on women’s influence reflects a strategic recognition of their role in shaping public perception and driving civic engagement at the grassroots level.
In a
symbolic gesture of empowerment, Mrs. Tinubu donated personal vehicles to APC
women leaders in Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun, and Oyo states, clarifying that
the vehicles were gifts to the individuals rather than party assets. This act
was intended to strengthen grassroots political activities and enhance mobility
for advocacy efforts.
APC
National Women Leader Mary Alile Idele echoed the First Lady’s sentiments,
highlighting that the TTB would serve as a vehicle for advocacy, voter
education, and civic engagement across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.
With
President Tinubu already securing the APC ticket for a second term, the
initiative positions women as pivotal actors in the forthcoming electoral
contest scheduled for January 16, 2027.
The
editorial significance of this launch lies in its dual purpose: consolidating
political support while embedding the administration’s reforms into everyday
discourse at the grassroots. It is a reminder that in Nigeria’s political
landscape, mobilisation is not merely about rallies and slogans, but about
sustained engagement with communities, ensuring that policies resonate with
citizens’ lived realities.
The First
Lady’s initiative thus represents both a political strategy and a social call
to action, placing women at the heart of the nation’s democratic journey.
