| Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor, Ogun State |
Ogun
State has been recognized as the second best-performing state in Nigeria in the
2025 State Performance Index (pSPI), a ranking compiled by Phillips Consulting.
This
achievement places Ogun just behind Lagos State, highlighting the effectiveness
of its governance and development strategies under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s
ISEYA agenda.
The pSPI is an annual assessment that evaluates all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) using a methodology that blends 70 percent objective performance data with 30 percent citizen perception surveys.
The objective component measures fiscal management, infrastructure development, education, healthcare delivery, and economic performance, while the perception survey captures residents’ views on governance and public service delivery.
Ogun’s
strong showing in the 2025 ranking was attributed to its expanding industrial
base, sustained infrastructure investments, and economic competitiveness.
The
state’s strategic location adjoining Lagos has further enhanced its role as a
manufacturing hub. It has attracted significant investments in logistics,
agro-processing, housing, and industrial parks, strengthening its economic
profile and contributing to its improved national standing.
Other
states that made the top five include Kaduna, Adamawa, and Niger, reflecting a
diverse spread of high-performing regions across Nigeria. Phillips Consulting
emphasized that the State Performance Index serves as a governance scorecard,
enabling policymakers, investors, development partners, and citizens to
evaluate the effectiveness of state administrations and their development
outcomes.
The 2025
edition particularly underscores evidence-based governance, combining audited
public data with citizen feedback for a balanced assessment.
This
recognition reinforces Ogun State’s growing reputation as a leading destination
for investment, industrial growth, and sustainable development. It reflects
ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, expand economic opportunities, and
enhance the quality of life for its residents.
