FIx insecurity in 90 days or resign - Adeboye
Pastor Enoch
Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has
urged Nigeria’s federal government to give security chiefs a strict 90-day
ultimatum to eliminate terrorists or resign.
His call comes
amid worsening insecurity, kidnappings, and terrorist attacks across the
country.
Adeboye’s UltimatumPastor Adeboye made his remarks in a video shared on his official X account, stressing that Nigeria’s security chiefs must deliver measurable results in tackling terrorism. He stated: “Move fast and tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign.”Targeting Terrorists and Their Sponsors.
Adeboye
emphasized that the fight against insecurity should not stop at neutralizing
terrorists. He insisted that those who finance and support terrorism must also
be eliminated, regardless of their influence or political status.
This reflects
his belief that sponsors of violent groups are just as dangerous as the armed
fighters themselves.
Adeboye recalled
advising former President Muhammadu Buhari to issue a similar directive to
service chiefs in 2021. Buhari gave them three months to eliminate Boko Haram
and bandits, but the order was not fully enforced after the deadline expired.
Adeboye noted
that this failure highlighted the importance of strong political will and
consistent enforcement of directives.
Nigeria
continues to face widespread insecurity, including kidnappings of
schoolchildren and teachers, such as the May 15 attack in Ogbomoso, Oyo State,
where dozens were abducted and one teacher was later killed.
Given the rising
incidents of banditry and terrorist attacks across communities, fueling public
demand for urgent government action, President Bola Tinubu has since deployed a
specialized security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify
efforts against kidnappers and terrorists.
Adeboye’s
ultimatum carries significant weight because he is one of Nigeria’s most
influential religious leaders, with millions of followers. His demand for
accountability reflects growing frustration among Nigerians over the
government’s handling of insecurity. If enforced, the 90-day deadline could
pressure security chiefs to adopt more proactive and results-driven strategies.
Adeboye’s
statement is both a warning and a challenge to Nigeria’s leadership: insecurity
must be tackled decisively within 90 days, or those responsible should step
aside.
His insistence on targeting both terrorists and their sponsors underscores the need for a comprehensive approach to restoring peace in Nigeria.
