Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (Abia South, Senate)

Enyinnaya Abaribe has long been one of the most recognizable voices in Nigeria’s Senate. Born in 1955, he first entered public life as Deputy Governor of Abia State before winning election to the Senate in 2007. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a fearless critic of government excesses and a defender of South-East interests.

Recently, Abaribe has been vocal on Nigeria’s fiscal challenges, calling for deeper restructuring to ensure equity among regions. His tenure as Senate Minority Leader cemented his role as a rallying figure for opposition politics. For many constituents, he embodies the idea that a lawmaker should speak truth to power, even when it is unpopular.

Did You Know? Abaribe is also a trained economist, with a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, showing the breadth of his intellectual background.

Hon. Fuad Kayode Laguda (Surulere I, House of Representatives)

Fuad Kayode Laguda is one of the newest faces in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, but he has already made headlines. Born in 1977, Laguda studied Economics at the University of Maiduguri before working in taxation and finance. His political breakthrough came in 2024, when he won the Surulere I bye-election to replace former Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila, now Chief of Staff to President Tinubu.

His victory was seen as a consolidation of APC’s strength in Lagos, but also as the rise of a younger generation of lawmakers. Laguda has promised to bring financial discipline and fresh energy to the House, representing one of Lagos’s most dynamic constituencies.

Did You Know? Laguda completed his NYSC at the Central Bank of Nigeria, giving him early exposure to the country’s financial system.

Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa (Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly)

Mudashiru Obasa has been a fixture in Lagos politics for nearly two decades. Representing Agege I Constituency since 2007, he rose to become Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015, a position he has held ever since. A lawyer by training, Obasa has steered the Assembly through multiple administrations, often playing a decisive role in shaping Lagos’s legislative agenda.

In 2026, Obasa’s influence extended beyond Nigeria when he was appointed Sub-National Representative on the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (African Region). This international recognition underscores his stature as one of the most experienced state-level lawmakers in the country.

Did You Know? Obasa is the longest-serving Speaker in Lagos Assembly history, a testament to his political staying power.
