Nigeria's President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Anti-Terrorism War - Tinubu Approves New Military Equipment
In a
decisive move to bolster Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and banditry,
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the procurement of new military
equipment and logistics.
This
development follows a high-level security briefing at the Presidential Villa in
Abuja, underscoring the administration’s commitment to strengthening national
defense capabilities.
The meeting brought together Nigeria’s top security chiefs, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
Also
present were the heads of intelligence and policing agencies, such as the
Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi, and
Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
During
the briefing, the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), outlined
the current security challenges, particularly in Borno State, where insurgent
attacks have intensified. He emphasized that the President’s approval of
additional equipment was a direct response to these developments.
Gen. Musa
explained that the new equipment would enhance ongoing military operations,
enabling forces to respond more effectively to insurgent threats. He noted that
recent attacks were part of the cyclical nature of conflict, where extremist
groups escalate violence before government forces counter with decisive
measures.
The
minister also highlighted that Nigerian troops had already adjusted their
strategies, leading to significant battlefield gains, including the
neutralization of insurgent commanders and the capture of assets.
Despite
these advances, Musa acknowledged the heavy toll on the armed forces, with
several courageous officers and soldiers lost in combat. He described their
sacrifices as part of the broader mission to safeguard Nigeria’s peace and
security.
He urged
citizens to maintain confidence in the security agencies, stressing that
coordinated efforts across military and intelligence units were yielding
results.
The
Defence Minister reassured Nigerians that the government’s renewed investment
in military hardware and logistics would ensure victory in the anti-terrorism
war.
He also
addressed misinformation circulating online, clarifying that the security
situation was being managed with precision and transparency.
President
Tinubu’s approval of new military equipment marks a significant escalation in
Nigeria’s anti-terrorism campaign. By reinforcing the armed forces with
advanced tools and logistics, the administration aims to secure lasting peace
and stability across the nation.
The move
reflects both a recognition of current challenges and a determination to
overcome them through strategic coordination and resilience.
