“I’m Committed To My Present Assignment,” Power Minister Adelabu Denies Resignation Reports

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has publicly dismissed circulating reports suggesting that he had resigned from his position. The speculation, which spread widely on social media, was fueled by a purported resignation letter.

Adelabu clarified in an interview with Channels Television that the letter was fake and that he had not authored any such document. He emphasized that he remains dedicated to his current role in the federal government.

Adelabu acknowledged his political ambition to contest the Oyo State governorship election in 2027 under the All Progressives Congress (APC). He confirmed that he is still in the race but stressed that any formal step toward his candidacy would be taken at the appropriate time, with the consent of President Bola Tinubu.

He remarked, “For now, I’m committed to my present assignment. It’s still about service, whether national or sub-national.”

The political landscape in Oyo State is already active, with the “Renewed Hope Agenda Ambassadors” led by Senator Teslim Folarin working to unite party members across all 33 local government areas. Their efforts are aimed at strengthening support for President Tinubu’s re-election and ensuring APC’s success in the state, with the governorship seat at Agodi Government House as the ultimate prize.

Meanwhile, Senator Sarafadeen Ali of Oyo South has also been reported to be eyeing the APC governorship ticket, signaling a competitive race ahead.

President Tinubu has directed all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 elections to resign by March 31, in line with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act 2026 and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s timetable for party primaries.

Adelabu’s denial of resignation underscores his current commitment to national service while keeping his political aspirations alive for the future.
