BREAKING: PDP Suspends Anyanwu, Bature, and Others Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities
In a
dramatic turn of events within Nigeria’s political landscape, the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended four of its top-ranking national officers
over allegations of anti-party activities and violations of the party’s
constitution.
The announcement was made on Saturday, November 1, 2025, following a decisive meeting of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
The
officials affected by the suspension include Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who serves
as the National Secretary; Hon. Umar Bature, the National Organising Secretary;
Kamaldeen Ajibade, the National Legal Adviser; and Okechukwu Osuoha, the Deputy
National Legal Adviser.
According
to the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the
suspensions were prompted by findings that these individuals had engaged in
conduct deemed inconsistent with the provisions of the PDP Constitution and
detrimental to the party’s interests.
The disciplinary action comes at a time of heightened internal tension within the PDP, occurring just 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an order halting the party’s planned National Elective Convention, originally scheduled for November 15.
The court’s intervention was based on a pending suit
challenging the legitimacy of the convention’s conduct, further complicating
the party’s internal affairs.
As part
of the suspension measures, the affected officers have been barred from
performing their official duties for a period of one month. During this time,
they will be subject to further investigation by the party’s National
Disciplinary Committee.
In line
with the PDP Constitution, Hon. Arc. Setonji Koshoedo, the Deputy National
Secretary, has been appointed to act in place of Senator Anyanwu.
Similarly,
the National Director of Legal Services has been directed to oversee the
responsibilities of both the National Legal Adviser and the Deputy National
Legal Adviser.
This
development adds to a growing list of internal disputes and factional tensions
within the PDP. Just days earlier, another faction of the party announced the
suspension of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and five other NWC members,
signaling deepening rifts ahead of the 2025 National Convention.
The party
also recently dismissed a forgery allegation leveled against Senator Anyanwu,
further highlighting the complex web of accusations and counterclaims currently
engulfing the PDP.
The
implications of these suspensions are likely to reverberate across Nigeria’s
political scene, especially as the PDP grapples with internal restructuring and
prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
With key
figures sidelined and legal battles mounting, the party faces a critical
juncture that could shape its future trajectory and influence in national
politics.
