Ambassadorial Nominations by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
President
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally submitted a comprehensive list of thirty-two
ambassador-designates to the Nigerian Senate, requesting their swift
confirmation.
This latest submission represents a significant diplomatic reshaping, balancing career diplomats with political and non-career nominees.
The
nominations were conveyed through letters to Senate President Godswill Akpabio,
underscoring the urgency of approval to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign
representation.
The list
is divided into two categories: fifteen career ambassadors and seventeen
non-career ambassadors. Among them are notable figures from politics, academia,
and public service.
Importantly,
ten women are included, with four nominated as career ambassadors and six as
non-career ambassadors, reflecting an effort toward gender inclusivity in
Nigeria’s diplomatic corps.
The
non-career nominees feature prominent personalities such as Reno Omokri from
Delta State, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu from Bauchi, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi
Ugwuanyi, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode from Osun, Fatima Florence Ajimobi from Oyo,
and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim from Ondo. Others include Erelu Bisi Angela Adebayo,
Otunba Femi Pedro, Lola Akande, Grace Bent, Dr. Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, and
Ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu. This group blends political heavyweights,
academics, and professionals, signaling Tinubu’s intent to leverage diverse
expertise in Nigeria’s diplomatic missions.
On the
career side, the nominees include seasoned diplomats such as Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu
from Abia, Yakubu Nyaku Danladi from Taraba, Miamuna Ibrahim Besto from
Adamawa, Musa Musa Abubakar from Kebbi, Syndoph Paebi Endoni from Bayelsa,
Chima Geoffrey Lioma David from Ebonyi, Mopelola Adeola-Ibrahim from Ogun, and
Abimbola Samuel Reuben from Ondo. Others are Yvonne Ehinosen Odumah from Edo,
Hamza Mohammed Salau from Niger, Ambassador Shehu Barde from Katsina,
Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Monguno from Borno, Ambassador Muhammad Saidu Dahiru
from Kaduna, Ambassador Olatunji Ahmed Sulu Gambari from Kwara, and Ambassador
Wahab Adekola Akande from Osun. These individuals bring years of diplomatic
experience and institutional knowledge to Nigeria’s foreign service.
This
submission follows closely after an earlier batch of three nominees forwarded
just a week prior, highlighting the administration’s accelerated pace in
filling diplomatic positions.
The
nominations are part of Tinubu’s broader foreign policy strategy aimed at
strengthening Nigeria’s global presence and advancing national interests abroad.
The
ambassadorial list has already sparked discussions across political and public
circles, given the inclusion of high-profile figures and former officeholders.
If
confirmed, these ambassadors will represent Nigeria in key international
postings, shaping the country’s diplomatic relations in the coming years.
