Ganduje Dismisses Call for His Arrest as “Reckless, Baseless”
Former
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past
governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has strongly condemned the Kano
State Government’s recent demand for his arrest.
The call, which stemmed from alleged comments Ganduje made regarding the establishment of a militia group, was described by him as politically motivated, unfounded, and a diversion from pressing security challenges in the state.
In a
statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje
characterized the move as “reckless, baseless, and a clear reflection of the
Kano State Governor’s desperation and incompetence.” He accused Governor Abba
Kabir Yusuf’s administration of failing to address the escalating insecurity in
several local government areas, including Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa, where
communities have suffered repeated breaches without receiving adequate
government attention.
Ganduje
argued that instead of focusing on securing lives and property, the governor
has resorted to scapegoating and political theatrics. He criticized Yusuf’s
absence during critical moments when communities were in distress, noting that
such detachment reveals a disconnect between the governor and the people he
claims to serve.
Ganduje
emphasized that leadership should be demonstrated through purposeful action,
responsibility, and compassion, not through press conferences or statements
aimed at diverting public attention from failures.
The
former governor also defended his record in office, insisting that during his
eight-year tenure, Kano State enjoyed stability and security.
According
to Olofu, Ganduje was never associated with violence or acts undermining peace,
and his administration earned national commendation for safeguarding lives and
property. This, he said, stands in sharp contrast to what he described as the
current administration’s ineptitude and lack of direction.
Ganduje’s
response comes shortly after Governor Yusuf signed the Kano State Security
Neighborhood Watch Law, 2025, a move aimed at strengthening local security
structures.
However,
Ganduje urged the governor to focus on his constitutional duty of protecting
residents rather than engaging in what he termed “political theatrics and
unfounded allegations.” He concluded by reiterating that true leadership is
measured by responsibility and compassion, not by attempts to silence political
opponents.
This
clash underscores the deepening political rivalry in Kano State, where security
concerns and governance challenges continue to dominate public discourse.
Ganduje’s
dismissal of the arrest call as baseless highlights the tension between past
and present administrations, with both sides trading accusations over
responsibility for the state’s security situation.
