CSW-N Urges Haste in Rescuing Abducted Kurmin Wali Residents
On January 18, 2026, a shocking incident unfolded in Kurmin Wali village, located in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria. During church services, armed assailants abducted 177 worshippers from three different churches. While a handful managed to escape, the majority remain in captivity.
As of January 26, 2026, Christian Solidarity Worldwide Nigeria (CSW-N) has raised urgent concerns that 166 individuals, including children as young as five, women, and elderly men, are still being held hostage under dire conditions.
The captives are reportedly exposed to harsh weather, hunger, and grave danger, with their families left in anguish and fear. Initially, officials denied the incident, but the Force Public Relations Officer later confirmed the abduction.
The Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, visited the community in the aftermath, pledging support and initiating measures such as medical care for the 11 escapees, road repairs to improve access to the village, and enhanced security presence.
Despite these efforts, CSW-N insists that the urgency of rescuing the victims cannot be overstated. Reverend Yunusa Sabo Nmadu, Chief Executive Officer of CSW-N, emphasized that swift action is necessary not only to save lives but also to restore public trust, which was damaged by the initial denial of the kidnapping.
He further appealed for the rescue of other victims abducted from different communities across Kaduna State, highlighting the broader crisis of insecurity affecting the region.
The situation underscores the vulnerability of rural communities in Nigeria to violent attacks and the pressing need for coordinated rescue operations.
CSW-N’s call reflects both humanitarian concern and a demand for accountability, urging authorities to act decisively to bring the abducted residents of Kurmin Wali back to safety.
