Venora Holdings Partners NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Commits to Media Capacity Building
In a
significant move aimed at strengthening the Nigerian media landscape, Venora
Holdings Limited has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria
Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Correspondents’ Chapel.
The collaboration, announced on January 14, 2026, underscores Venora Holdings’ commitment to advancing media capacity building and improving the welfare of journalists.
During a
courtesy visit to the company’s Abuja office, the Managing Director of Venora
Holdings Limited, Mr. Ayodeji Torey, assured members of the NUJ FCT
Correspondents’ Chapel of his continued support. He emphasized that the
partnership would enhance the professional environment of journalists, ensuring
they have the resources and welfare structures necessary to thrive in their
demanding profession.
The
Chairman of the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Felix Ojo, praised Mr.
Torey’s philanthropic leadership, describing his approach as exemplary. He
highlighted Torey’s consistent investment in human development through
initiatives such as staff remuneration, health insurance schemes, empowerment
projects, vacation sponsorships, and the promotion of sportsmanship.
Ojo noted
that journalism, unlike many professions, often suffers from limited funding,
making welfare initiatives critical to productivity and excellence. He
referenced a recent chapel programme titled “Opportunities for Collective
Bargaining and Unionism in Place of Welfare,” which sought to address
occupational welfare challenges faced by journalists.
Comrade
Ojo also outlined pressing needs within the chapel, including the acquisition
of a chapel bus to ease mobility for members during official assignments.
In recognition
of Venora Holdings’ contributions, the Correspondents’ Chapel presented Mr.
Torey with an Award of Excellence in Workplace Practice. The award commended
the company for fostering a work environment that promotes employee growth,
meaningful rewards, and overall wellbeing.
Receiving
the award, Mr. Torey expressed surprise and gratitude, dedicating the honour to
his team for their tireless efforts behind the scenes. He reiterated that
Venora Holdings’ support for journalists was not driven by a desire for
recognition but by a genuine belief in doing what is right. He reaffirmed the
company’s readiness to collaborate with the Correspondents’ Chapel on
initiatives that would further improve journalists’ working conditions and
professional output.
This partnership
marks a pivotal step in bridging the gap between corporate Nigeria and the
media industry. By prioritizing welfare and capacity building, Venora Holdings
and the NUJ FCT Correspondents’ Chapel are setting a precedent for sustainable
collaboration that strengthens journalism as a cornerstone of democracy and
societal development.
