FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s Thank You Visit to Obio-Akpor LGA

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Chief Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, concluded his statewide “Thank You” tour with a grand finale in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he was received by thousands of supporters in a show of loyalty and political solidarity. The event underscored Obio-Akpor’s strategic electoral importance and Wike’s continued influence in Rivers politics.

The thank-you visit, held at the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Rumuola, Obio-Akpor, drew an unprecedented crowd of political leaders, party faithful, youths, women’s groups, and community stakeholders.

The atmosphere was charged with chants of solidarity songs, banners, and displays of support for Wike, who hails from Obio-Akpor himself.

The Minister expressed deep gratitude to the people of the local government, commending their loyalty and describing them as “grateful people” whose political weight cannot be underestimated. He emphasized that Obio-Akpor alone accounts for about 40 percent of the votes in Rivers State, making it a decisive force in shaping electoral outcomes.

Wike used the occasion to reaffirm his political stance and future direction. He pledged massive support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, declaring that Rivers State, particularly Obio-Akpor, would deliver overwhelming votes for the President. He also issued a stern warning to critics and political opponents, stressing that only President Tinubu has the authority to remove him from office as FCT Minister.

This statement came amid growing calls for his removal and heightened tensions between him and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Wike insisted that he would not allow political missteps that could jeopardize his career or the influence of his supporters, making clear his opposition to Fubara’s second-term ambition.

The visit was not only a political rally but also a demonstration of Obio-Akpor’s electoral strength. Community leaders and council executives, led by Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, pledged continued loyalty to Wike and expressed readiness to mobilize votes in future elections.

Wike, in turn, assured them that their support would not go unnoticed, promising to leverage their numerical advantage to punish political adversaries who undermine their community. He reminded attendees that Obio-Akpor’s voting bloc has historically determined Rivers State’s political trajectory and would continue to do so in 2027.

Observers noted that the thank-you tour, which spanned all 23 local government areas of Rivers State, was strategically designed to consolidate Wike’s political base, reinforce his relevance in national politics, and prepare the ground for the next electoral cycle.

The Obio-Akpor finale was particularly symbolic, given his roots in the community and its pivotal role in Rivers politics. The event highlighted the intersection of gratitude, loyalty, and political calculation, as Wike sought to maintain his dominance while aligning with the national leadership of President Tinubu.

Nyesom Wike’s thank-you visit to Obio-Akpor LGA was more than a gesture of appreciation; it was a powerful political statement. It showcased his enduring influence, the unwavering loyalty of his home base, and his strategic positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.

The rally reinforced Obio-Akpor’s reputation as a political powerhouse in Rivers State, while Wike’s declarations signaled his determination to remain a central figure in both state and national politics
