Donald Duke dumps PDP for ADC, gets membership card in Calabar

Donald Duke Dumps PDP for ADC, Receives Membership Card in Calabar

Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has once again reshaped the political landscape with his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The announcement was made official in Calabar Municipality, Ward 5, where Duke was formally registered and presented with his ADC membership card amid cheers and excitement from party supporters.

This move marks the second time Duke has exited the PDP, having previously left to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he contested as its presidential candidate, a decision that stirred widespread debate and controversy at the time.

The ADC leadership in Bakassi Local Government Area seized the momentum of Duke’s defection to rally support for the party.

In a stakeholders’ meeting involving chapter executives, ward chairmen, and secretaries, the party leaders described the ADC as a credible alternative capable of delivering transformative leadership. They urged Cross Riverians and Nigerians at large to embrace the party as a vehicle for reclaiming the nation from what they termed the misrule of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A statement released in Calabar reinforced this call, appealing to undecided Nigerians to join the ADC. The message emphasized the party’s readiness to bring about transformative change in Nigeria and was jointly signed by Emmanuel Asuquo, Chairman of the Bakassi Chapter, and Eko Boco, its Secretary.

Both officials reaffirmed their loyalty to the national leadership of the ADC, pledging unwavering support to Senator David Mark, the National Chairman, and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, the National Secretary. They stressed their commitment to strengthening the party’s structures at all levels in pursuit of unity and national renewal.

Donald Duke’s defection is not merely a personal political decision but a symbolic moment for the ADC, which has long sought to position itself as a viable alternative in Nigeria’s political arena. His stature as a former governor and presidential candidate lends weight to the party’s ambitions, potentially attracting new members and energizing its base ahead of future elections.

The development underscores the fluidity of Nigeria’s political alignments and highlights the growing appetite among citizens for alternatives to the dominant parties.

In Calabar, the atmosphere surrounding Duke’s registration was celebratory, reflecting both the significance of his move and the optimism of ADC supporters.

Whether this defection will translate into broader political gains for the ADC remains to be seen, but it undeniably signals a renewed chapter in Donald Duke’s political journey and adds fresh dynamics to the evolving Nigerian political scene.
