Tinubu Meets Kwara Governor After Kaiama Attack
President
Bola Ahmed Tinubu convened a high-level meeting with Kwara State Governor
AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq at the State House in Abuja following the devastating
assault on Worro community in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred just two days prior, left more than 160 people dead and has been attributed to suspected jihadist fighters. The tragedy has sparked urgent consultations between federal and state authorities to address the worsening security situation in Kwara State.
During
the meeting, President Tinubu emphasized the federal government’s immediate
response to the massacre. He had earlier ordered the deployment of an army
battalion to Kaiama and approved the establishment of a new military command to
spearhead Operation Savannah Shield, a mission designed to flush out the
attackers and secure vulnerable communities across the region.
Tinubu
condemned the killings as cowardly and inhumane, expressing outrage that the
victims were reportedly targeted for rejecting extremist indoctrination and
choosing a peaceful practice of Islam.
The
President directed closer collaboration between federal and state agencies to
provide relief to affected residents. He stressed the importance of ensuring
that perpetrators are tracked down and prosecuted, while also pledging
humanitarian support for displaced families.
The
meeting with Governor AbdulRazaq was part of a broader series of consultations,
as other prominent figures also visited the State House. These included Senate
President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda,
and governors Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, and Bassey Otu of
Cross River.
Although
details of these wider engagements remain sketchy, the collective presence of
political and governmental leaders underscores the gravity of the Kaiama
tragedy and the urgency of coordinated action.
The
federal government’s swift military and humanitarian measures signal a
determination to restore peace and stability in Kwara State, while also sending
a strong message against extremist violence.
The
Kaiama attack has become a defining moment in Nigeria’s ongoing struggle
against insurgency and communal violence.
Tinubu’s
meeting with Governor AbdulRazaq reflects both the immediacy of the crisis and
the broader national imperative to safeguard communities from extremist
threats.
