The Imperative of APC’s Nationwide E-Registration - Seye Oladejo
The Lagos
State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the
ongoing nationwide e-registration of members is not a symbolic gesture but a
compulsory reform initiative.
According to the party, this digital exercise represents a landmark step in strengthening internal democracy, enforcing discipline, and modernising party operations in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
The
e-registration programme, which commenced in early January and is scheduled to
run until the end of the month, is designed to capture both existing and new
members into a centralised digital database.
This
reform is aimed at eliminating duplication, impersonation, and unverifiable
records, thereby ensuring the sanctity of the APC membership register. Every
member, the party insists, must be digitally recognised and accounted for, as
credible congresses and transparent primaries depend on a reliable register.
The Lagos
APC emphasised that the initiative would dismantle entrenched gatekeeping
structures that restrict access to party processes, thereby creating a level
playing field for all members. It described the APC as an open and expanding
political movement, not a closed organisation.
By
embracing digital registration, the party seeks to enhance mobilisation among
youths and professionals, improve grassroots coordination, sharpen campaign
strategies, and boost electoral readiness.
The
chapter expressed confidence that the reform would reinforce APC’s position as
Nigeria’s dominant political party, contrasting its forward-looking approach
with what it termed the “assumptions” of the opposition. Members and
stakeholders were urged to participate fully, with the warning that
indifference would amount to a disservice to the party’s ideals. The statement
concluded by affirming APC’s commitment to continuous reform and modernisation,
despite resistance from retrogressive interests.
In
essence, the nationwide e-registration is portrayed as a transformative measure
that will not only secure the integrity of APC’s membership but also strengthen
its democratic processes, ensuring the party remains resilient and relevant in
Nigeria’s political future.
