First Lady Urges Women To Mentor Girls, Promote Modest Dressing
In a
recent interfaith gathering held in Abuja, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi
Tinubu, delivered a heartfelt appeal to women across the nation, urging them to
take on greater responsibility in shaping the lives of young girls.
Her message emphasized mentorship, moral guidance, and the promotion of modest dressing as essential pillars for nurturing the next generation.
Mrs.
Tinubu challenged women to adopt at least one girl from an indigent background
as a mentee, encouraging them to provide scholarships, moral support, and
practical guidance.
She stressed
that mentorship should not be limited to ongoing relationships but should also
extend to new opportunities to uplift disadvantaged girls. “Help them, even if
it is to give a scholarship, encourage them, and teach them good virtue,” she
said, underscoring the importance of instilling values that transcend material
assistance.
The First
Lady also addressed the issue of dressing and conduct among young people. She
urged women to teach girls how to present themselves with dignity, emphasizing
that beauty should not be equated with revealing clothing. According to her,
true beauty emanates from within and is reflected in character and behavior.
She
cautioned against the growing trend of immodest dressing, noting that “being
naked is not beauty,” and encouraged women to guide girls toward modesty as a
reflection of self-respect and virtue.
In her
remarks, Mrs. Tinubu extended her appeal to men, calling for restraint and
discipline. She expressed hope that divine guidance would help men maintain
moral clarity and support the values being instilled in young women.
This call
to action highlights the First Lady’s broader vision of a society where women
play a central role in mentoring and moral education, ensuring that the next
generation grows up with strong values, modesty, and a sense of responsibility.
Her
message resonates deeply in a time when cultural influences and social media
trends often challenge traditional values, reminding women of their crucial
role in shaping the moral fabric of the nation.
