Lagos APC Endorses Tinubu for Second Term Amid COWLSO’s 25th Anniversary Celebration
In a politically charged atmosphere
underscored by celebration and strategic alignment, the Lagos State chapter of
the All Progressives Congress (APC) has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed
Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This declaration came during the APC Stakeholders’ Forum held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, a gathering that drew prominent figures from both state and national political spheres.
The endorsement was not merely ceremonial, it
was a resounding affirmation of Tinubu’s leadership and reform agenda,
particularly from the political base that nurtured his rise to national
prominence.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy Dr.
Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa,
and former Minister Babatunde Fashola were among the dignitaries who lent their
voices to the endorsement.
Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Chairman of the
Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), and Senator Tokunbo Abiru also expressed
strong support, citing Tinubu’s economic reforms and governance style as
reasons for their backing.
The forum emphasized the need for a reward
system within the party and proposed financial refunds for council poll losers,
signaling a broader effort to strengthen party unity and morale.
Simultaneously, the Committee of Wives of
Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) marked its 25th anniversary with a celebration
that highlighted its contributions to social development and women empowerment.
Founded in 2000, COWLSO has played a pivotal
role in health, education, and community outreach initiatives across Lagos
State.
The anniversary event served as a platform to
showcase the committee’s achievements and reaffirm its commitment to supporting
government efforts in improving the lives of Lagosians.
The convergence of these two events, political
endorsement and civic celebration, underscores the symbiotic relationship
between governance and grassroots mobilization in Lagos.
While the APC’s endorsement of Tinubu sets
the tone for the 2027 electoral landscape, COWLSO’s milestone reflects the
enduring legacy of social advocacy within the state’s political framework.
Together, they paint a portrait of a state
deeply invested in continuity, reform, and community engagement.
As the political machinery begins to stir
ahead of the next election cycle, the Lagos APC’s endorsement is likely to
galvanize support across the Southwest and beyond.
However, it also invites scrutiny from
opposition parties and civil society groups, some of whom have criticized the
move as premature and disconnected from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians.
Nonetheless, for Tinubu and his allies, the
endorsement represents a strategic consolidation of power and a reaffirmation of
his political roots in Lagos, a city that continues to shape the national
narrative.
