Obidient Movement Will Remain in ADC Despite Outcome of Presidential Primary - Tanko Yunusa

The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Tanko Yunusa, has reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring that the movement will remain within the party regardless of the outcome of its presidential primary.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Yunusa emphasized that the Obidient Movement, known for its support of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, is firmly anchored in democratic principles and will abide by the party’s internal processes even if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerges as the ADC’s candidate.

Yunusa explained that the movement intends to contest fairly alongside other aspirants, expressing confidence that Obi’s widespread popularity and the large following he commands will give him an edge. He described the ADC as a political “vehicle” that only gained national traction following Obi’s entry, noting that millions of supporters are prepared to join the party en masse.

According to him, the Obidient Movement is largely composed of intelligent youth demanding clarity and good governance, and their participation signals a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

The coordinator further accused the current government of deploying what he termed “negative executive power” against Nigerians, urging citizens to counter this by exercising their “positive executive power” through democratic participation. He highlighted that several prominent political figures have already aligned with the ADC, including former governors, senators, and ex-principal officers of the National Assembly.

Notably, Senator Victor Umeh, former APGA National Chairman, played a central role at a recent political gathering in Enugu, serving as Master of Ceremonies and moving motions that were unanimously affirmed. Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has also officially defected to the ADC, with more defections expected in the coming weeks.

Yunusa’s remarks underscore the growing influence of the Obidient Movement within the ADC. By pledging to remain in the party regardless of the primary’s outcome, the movement signals its readiness to shape Nigeria’s democratic future from within, positioning itself as a formidable force ahead of the 2027 elections.

This report highlights the strategic resolve of the Obidient Movement to consolidate its base in the ADC, demonstrating both loyalty to democratic processes and confidence in Peter Obi’s candidacy. It also reflects the broader political realignments taking place in Nigeria as new coalitions emerge to challenge established power structures.
