Abdullahi Fodio University to Graduate 7,221 at First Convocation
The
Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology (AFUSTA), located in
Aliero, Kebbi State, is preparing for a historic milestone as it hosts its
maiden combined convocation ceremony.
Scheduled for Saturday, the event will see the graduation of 7,221 students, marking a significant achievement in the institution’s journey since its establishment.
Vice-Chancellor
Professor Danshehu, who assumed office 16 months ago as the fourth substantive
leader of the university, announced the development during a press briefing. He
explained that the graduands span academic sessions from 2010/2011 to
2023/2024, reflecting nearly two decades of uninterrupted academic activity. He
emphasized that the convocation is not only a celebration of academic success
but also a testament to the resilience and growth of AFUSTA over the years.
The
ceremony will also feature the formal investiture of the university’s
Chancellor, Dr. Muhammad Zayyanu Abdullahi, the Emir of Yauri. In addition,
honorary doctorate degrees will be conferred on distinguished Nigerians,
including the governors of Kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Imo states, as well as
the Sultan of Sokoto and the Ooni of Ife. These honors recognize their
leadership roles and contributions to national development.
A
highlight of the convocation will be the lecture delivered by Professor
Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, who is expected to provide
insights into governance, education, and development.
Professor
Danshehu reiterated his administration’s commitment to repositioning AFUSTA as
a globally competitive institution. He noted that the university is determined
to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of Kebbi State and Nigeria at
large, underscoring its vision of becoming a first-class center of learning and
innovation.
This
convocation, therefore, represents more than a graduation ceremony; it is a
landmark in the university’s history, symbolizing its progress, resilience, and
ambition to stand among the leading institutions of higher learning in Nigeria
and beyond.
