Amotekun Suspends Three Officers, Parades Four Suspects in Ondo
In a
dramatic turn of events within the Ondo State chapter of the Western Nigeria
Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, three officers have been
suspended over allegations of gross misconduct and actions deemed detrimental
to the image of the security outfit.
The announcement was made by the State Commander of Amotekun, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, during a press briefing held at the command’s headquarters in Akure.
According
to Adeleye, the suspended officers were not only relieved of their duties but
also declared wanted to facilitate a thorough investigation into their
activities. Preliminary findings suggest that the trio may have been sponsored
to malign and discredit the command through various social media platforms.
The
commander emphasized that such behavior undermines the integrity and
operational discipline of the corps, which was established to bolster regional
security across southwestern Nigeria.
In the
same briefing, Adeleye paraded four suspects apprehended for various criminal
offenses. Among them was an individual identified as an informant for a
notorious kidnap syndicate that has been terrorizing parts of Ondo State.
The
commander detailed that the suspects were involved in activities ranging from
aiding kidnappers to other forms of organized crime, and their arrests were
part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating within the
state.
This
development comes amid heightened scrutiny of Amotekun’s operations, especially
following recent controversies in neighboring Osun State, where about
twenty-five operatives were arrested by the Nigeria Police.
The
police also sealed the outfit’s operational bases in Osogbo and Ile-Ife,
actions linked to the alleged killing of four indigenes of Akinlalu, including
three siblings, reportedly by Amotekun personnel.
The Ondo
State command has reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability,
assuring the public that any officer found guilty of misconduct will face the
full weight of disciplinary procedures.
Adeleye concluded
by reaffirming the corps’ dedication to safeguarding lives and property, while
urging residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure a
safer environment.
