Our elections must be free, fair, credible – Tinubu to INEC Chair, Amupitan

On October 23, 2025, President Bola Tinubu delivered a pointed and principled message to Nigeria’s newly sworn-in Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN.

Speaking at the Presidential Villa shortly after the swearing-in ceremony, Tinubu emphasized the critical importance of electoral integrity in Nigeria’s democratic process. He urged Amupitan to ensure that elections across the country are conducted in a manner that is free, fair, and credible.

Tinubu’s remarks underscored a broader commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic institutions. He stated that the electoral process must be continuously improved, with lessons from past challenges informing innovations for the present and future.

The president also acknowledged the significance of Amupitan’s appointment, noting that his nomination and confirmation by the Senate reflect the confidence placed in him by both the executive and legislative branches of government.
