Oyebanji Secures APC Governorship Ticket in Ekiti Through Unanimous Delegate Affirmation
In a
landmark political event held on October 27, 2025, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of
Ekiti State was unanimously affirmed as the governorship candidate of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) for the upcoming election.
The special nomination congress took place at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti, where 885 elected delegates from across the state gathered to participate in the process. The congress was chaired by Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, who also led the supervisory committee overseeing the exercise.
Governor
Oyebanji arrived at the venue to a warm reception from party delegates,
signaling strong grassroots support. In his opening remarks, Governor Ododo
emphasized the party’s commitment to legal and procedural integrity, noting
that Ekiti was the first state to conduct this type of special nomination
congress.
The
process began with Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo formally withdrawing from the race,
paving the way for a consensus motion. The motion to affirm Oyebanji was moved
by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and seconded by the Speaker of the Ekiti
State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye. The affirmation was then
put to a voice vote, which received a resounding and unanimous “yes” from all
delegates present.
This
affirmation followed a series of developments in the lead-up to the primary.
Two aspirants were disqualified for failing to meet party guidelines, and
another voluntarily stepped down, leaving Oyebanji as the sole contender.
his
acceptance speech, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to President Bola
Tinubu for his continued support and described the affirmation as a reflection
of the popular will of APC members across Ekiti State. He pledged to uphold the
party’s values and lead the state toward sustained progress.
Oyebanji
also extended an olive branch to disqualified aspirant Kayode Ojo, inviting him
to join the collective mission of advancing Ekiti’s development.
The
governor’s emergence as the first consensus candidate of a ruling party in
Ekiti marks a significant moment in the state’s political history, reinforcing
his influence and the unity within the APC ahead of the governorship election.
