DECLARATION RALLY OF GOVERNOR PETER MBAH INTO APC: A PIVOTAL POLITICAL SHIFT IN ENUGU STATE

On October 14, 2025, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State formally declared his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant realignment in the political landscape of the South-East region of Nigeria.

The declaration rally, held at the Government House in Enugu, was not merely a personal transition but a sweeping political movement that saw the entire executive arm of the state governmentin, cluding all commissioners, elected chairpersons of the 17 local government areas, and councillors, join the governor in embracing the APC platform.

In his address titled “Charting a New Course: Transition from PDP to APC,” Governor Mbah emphasized that the decision followed a long period of reflection and was driven by a desire to accelerate development in Enugu State. He articulated a vision of disruptive transformation, aligning his goals with those of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom he described as “a partner in purpose” and “a man with the courage to make tough choices for lasting prosperity”.

Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to the PDP for the support it had provided throughout his political journey, acknowledging the party’s role in his electoral success. However, he stressed that leadership often demands difficult decisions in pursuit of higher principles. He stated that the APC’s national vision offered a more robust framework for collaboration, infrastructure development, and economic growth, which he believed would better serve the interests of Enugu and the broader South-East region.

The rally was attended by prominent political figures, including Mbah’s predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, signaling a broader shift within the state’s political elite.

The governor’s speech resonated with themes of renewal, unity, and strategic alignment with federal initiatives. He called on Ndi Enugu, the people of Enuguto , embrace the change as a pathway to securing the future of their projects and aspirations.

This declaration rally not only underscored Governor Mbah’s personal political evolution but also set the stage for Enugu State’s deeper integration into the national political framework under the APC-led federal government. 

The move is expected to influence future electoral dynamics and policy directions in the region, as Enugu positions itself to benefit from closer ties with the center.
